HAVE you dreamed of writing, but don't know how to start? Are you an experienced writer looking for ways to develop your craft? Do you want to learn techniques to see your work with new eyes?
Day 1 of this lively and engaging workshop will include timed exercises and inspired examples to get you started if you haven't written before, or provide you with new ideas and direction if you already have manuscripts in your bottom drawer. The exercises can be written as prose, memoir, poetry or dialogue. If you are working on a novel, you can use them to expand your manuscript. Day 2 will explore two key aspects of the craft of writing: characterisation and how to edit your own work so that your prose will have the greatest impact.
The workshops will be conducted in a friendly, constructive atmosphere and is open to anyone with a desire to learn, from beginners to experienced writers. All genres are welcomed. The exercises can be written as ficition, non-fiction, poetry or dialogue. A respectful environment will be created where you can explore the writing process.
LEVEL
Either day of the workshop is ideal for both beginners and experienced writers.
FORMAT • DAY 1: RELEASE THE WRITER IN YOU
• 5 hours of tuition (a morning and afternoon session of 2.5 hours each)
• techniques to deepen and develop your writing
• the opportunity to have writing done in the workshop read and discussed (voluntary)
FORMAT • DAY 2: EXPLORING THE CRAFT OF WRITING
The power to create and develop character is at the heart of writing fiction. On Day 2 the morning session will explore how to reveal the internal lives of your characters. The afternoon session will concentrate on the essential skill of editing. This hands-on, fun, inter-active workshop will help you start to see your work more objectively. During 5 hours of tuition you will:
• learn how to develop three-dimensional characters
• create a character's "hidden agenda"
• how to use dialogue to reveal character and further the plot
• develop an eagle's eye for the superfluous, the repetitive, the boring
• learn the 10 Deadly Sins of writing so you can avoid them
• have the opportunity to share writing you've done in the workshop (voluntary)

Paper (bound notebook preferably), pen & a spare, clipboard (optional)

Car: Good Samaritan Social Center is off South Telshor Boulevard near Memorial Medical Center. The Social Center is located near the intersection of Telshor and Buena Vida Circle. LUNCH
If you would like lunch to be provided at the center, there is an additional charge. Day 1 including lunch: $53. Day 2 including lunch: $55. Days 1 & 2, inclusive of lunch: $102.
