TO undertake a novel is a long, often lonely, experience. Many people begin a book only to lose momentum. This workshop is an opportunity for those working on novels, short stories or creative non-fiction to receive constructive feedback, inspiration and a deadline.

This short course will consist of readings and discussions of your work-in-progress. Sessions will include:

  • techniques to develop your novel, creative non-fiction or short story
  • advice on how to arrange and expand your material
  • the opportunity to have writing read and discussed in a thorough, detailed way
  • learn how to edit to become a more objective critic of your own work

  • help if you've hit a block

REQUIREMENT TO JOIN
It is not necessary to have have written before, but because this workshop will be generated by the work students produce, you must be committed to regularly bringing work for discussion. Constructive feedback and a weekly deadline will encourage you to steam ahead with your prose.

FEEDBACK
To receive the best feedback, you'll need to bring photocopies of the excerpts you are reading. These will be marked up and returned to you. Word limit: 1300 words

DROP-IN PARTICIPANTS
If you are unable to do the whole course or would like to try it, you can attend on a drop-in basis. The cost per session is £22. Please email or phone beforehand to ensure a place will be available.

WHAT YOU CAN DO NEXT
If you haven't done so already, the "So You Want to Write A Novel" is highly recommended if you are serious about learning the craft of writing. You can continue to receive feedback and support on your fiction with another "Workshop Your Fiction" course. If you'd like help to expand your manuscript, you can continue with "Creative Writing For Fact or Fiction".
