THIS workshop has been devised to help you get your ideas and experiences down on the page. The course exercises can be used by novelists, short story writers, life-memoirists, playwrights or poets as an impetus for their work. If you have trouble creating new work, this course will help you to find stories in you that you didn't know were there.

This course will include:

  • seven 2.5 hour writing sessions (weeks 1 - 6)
  • techniques to start writing and/or develop work-in-progress
  • a chance to initiate pieces or to expand a manuscript
  • the opportunity to have writing done in the workshop read and discussed
  • Open Mic session (week 7) for those who wish to share prepared work (voluntary)


The workshop will be conducted in a friendly, constructive atmosphere and is open to anyone with a desire to write, from beginners to experienced writers.

If you are unable to do the whole course or would like to try it, you can attend on a drop-in basis. The cost per session is £45. Please email or phone beforehand to ensure a place will be available. Drop-in session fees must be paid in advance.

Bound notebook, pen & a spare. A clipboard is useful.

Week 8 is Open Mic Night where you will have the opportunity to read prepared work. If you wish to participate as a reader in the showcase evening, you'll need to bring photocopies in order to give you the best feedback on your work. These copies will be returned to you to help in your rewrite. Word limit: 1300


The sessions are held on a Monday evening. The course dates are 13 March,

20 March, 27 March, 10 April, 24 April, 8 May, and 15 May.

This is a 7-week course that runs over a period of 10 weeks. There will be no class on 3 April, Easter Monday 17 April and May Bank holiday on 1 May.
